History of Puebla
During the prehispanic age, important cultures settled down in the zone. Later, on April 16, 1531, over the "Cuetlaxcoapan" valley, the city of Puebla was founded as a social and human experiment with civilians headed by Fray Toribio de Benavente, who were supported by the Oidor Juan de Salmeron.
The majestic city of Puebla was built with the labor and the art of the Natives of the region and Spaniards. Agriculture and cattle farming proliferated in the region. The architecture reached its splendor with churches, schools, hospitals and houses, and it is here where the cultural syncretism left one of its most important legacies; the Historical Center of the City of Puebla, was declared "Cultural Heritage of Humanity" by the UNESCO in 1987.
In addition, important industries flourished, including the outstanding textile industry. The worldwide recognized gastronomy from Puebla also arises from the union of the European and Native Cultures and leaves to the world dishes of international reputation such as the "mole poblano", the "chiles en nogada" and the traditional candies of the region, among other. Through time and gradually, Puebla achieved a great development thanks to the efforts of its men and women, workers, industrialists, governors, artists, lawyers, researchers… Which have made of Puebla a Civil, Religious and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
